Gus, 6 year old yellow lab/golden retriever mix, ~80 lbs, neutered
Background: Gus is a 6-year-old lab/golden mix and has been with the same family all his life. His family got him from a breeder when the daughter became ill, and he was a comfort to her during that time. They love him a lot but a new family member has severe allergies to dogs and so they asked Golden Gate Lab Rescue to help rehome him.
What Owner Says: Gus has been with our family his whole life. He loves everyone including children. He loves playing fetch and running around with his brother, a golden doodle. He is very patient and loyal and eager to please.
What Rescue Rep Says: Gus is a sweet 6-year-old Lab/Golden Retriever mix with a big heart and a gentle soul. He’s friendly with both people and dogs, and when he recently met my dog, he was calm, polite, and easygoing.
Gus has grown up alongside his younger brother, a playful 3-year-old Goldendoodle, and the two are very close. They love to romp around the yard together and play games of fetch. While Gus hasn’t had much socialization outside of his family he is eager to meet new people and other dogs. At first, he may hang back when meeting strangers, but will warm up in no time. He’s very gentle when taking food from your hand and has no issues with resource guarding of food or toys.
On walks, Gus is enthusiastic and sometimes pulls on the leash, so a little extra training will help him become the perfect walking companion. He is house trained and already knows basic obedience, which gives him a great foundation. Gus enjoys being close to his people and prefers not to be left alone for long stretches. When he is left home, he settles in without causing trouble. Like many dogs, he can be sensitive to loud noises and will bark at sounds outside or when he sees strangers—but it’s excitement, not aggression.
This affectionate boy would thrive in a home where he gets regular exercise, is not left home alone for long periods, and maybe even another dog buddy to play with. He’s fine with cats, and older children would be a good fit (he may be too bouncy for toddlers). If you’re looking for a loyal, playful, and loving companion, Gus could be the perfect addition to your family!
Medical: Gus appears to be healthy. He is neutered, vaccines are up to date, and he’ll be started on preventatives shortly.
