URGENT FOSTER NEEDED. KONA WILL BE TAKEN TO THE SHELTER ON JUNE 30

Kona – 3 Years Old Yellow Female Lab Mix Spayed, 63 lbs.

Background: Originally rescued from the Merced County Human Society in 2021, this sweet and mellow dog is in desperate need of her next savior. Kona has had significant trauma over the last several months. Her owner was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer on Thanksgiving and after that diagnosis spent most of the next two months in the hospital before passing away in February. Kona went to her daughter and then off to Texas with a friend. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out with the friend who had 8 cats, 2 dogs, and 2 foster dogs. Kona started acting up with one of the other female dogs and back to California she came. Gee I wonder why?

What Kona's Owners Says: Kona is a very social, energetic, sweet, and patient. She is house-broken, crate trained, and likes to ride in the car. She is amazing with my 16-month-old daughter who lays on her, pokes her, pulls her tail, and gives her lots of love. Kona is patient, sweet, and affectionate. She gets two walks a day and we try and take her to the dog park once a week. She walks great on the leash but gets excited and jumpy when she sees another dog that she wants to play with. She also pulls when she is excited and sees something she wants. She has little training but does know sit, come and leave it.

What Kona's Rescue Rep Says: Kona is a sweet, mellow yellow Lab mix seeking her forever home after going through significant change and trauma over the past few months. This gentle girl needs a patient, loving family who can allow her to trust her new pack and provide stability after so much upheaval in her life.

Kona loves getting ample exercise followed by napping the day away. She enjoys meeting and playing with other dogs, though she recently hasn't been getting along well with alpha females. With people, Kona is friendly once she warms up - she may be a bit timid at first, but after getting her sniff test in, she's ready to be your bestie.

A few notes about Kona's needs: She adores children and currently lives happily with a 16-month-old. However, her love of chase means she may do best in a home without cats. And due to her recent trauma, she may thrive best as the only pup for now while she decompresses in her new forever home.

Could you open your heart and home to this precious pup? Kona can't wait to shower you with cuddles and loyalty as the newest member of your family.

Medical: Kona is in good health, current on vaccinations and spayed.

Our volunteers donate their personal time phones so please only call during reasonable hours (8am - 8pm). The Rescue Rep identified in the dog posting is the only person with information about the dog - please only contact the designated volunteer. We do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week; we do not have a facility where the dogs are housed, they are in foster homes throughout the Bay Area.
