MAX 9-year-old male Red Lab 98 lbs Neutered (Should be around 85 pounds)

Background: Max was purchased from a breeder and they are known for therapy dogs. (Fun fact about Max he was at the Giants game as a puppy and Buster Posey picked him up and held him up in front of the crowd. Max is famous!) Max was surrendered by his owner as they could not afford his medial care. Max had a growth on his foot that needed to be surgically removed and the cost was too much for them and the possibility of more care; they made the hard decision to give Max up for adoption. They got Max as a puppy for the grandkids and Max is one Super sweet dog. He gets along with everyone and everything. Max loves to go for car rides, likes other dogs, kids and we are not sure about cats. He knows many commands: Sit, Stay, down, come, fetch, leave it, off and it got out for walks on a regular basis. We are not sure if Max likes to swim but we do think he would; knowing he is a Lab! Max adores other dogs and is very gentle and submissive; everyone is his friend.

What Max's Foster Says: Max is a gentle giant of a dog, and as sweet as any labrador you might meet. He has adapted to our home well. Loves his people and just wants to follow you around, be nearby and get pets or rest his head in your lap. He is housetrained, and sleeps well in his crate through the night. Interested in toys and balls, he will be thrilled to play as soon as his foot is healed sufficiently to allow for running and bouncing around. He walks well on leash, no pulling. He knows some commands but doesn't seem to have spent a lot of time outside of the home and yard where he had been living. He gets along just fine with our labrador and is very excited when he sees other dogs. He just wants to meet everyone and every dog.

While his foot is healing, we have limited his activity to our yard and short neighborhood walks, but he rides well in the car and will be excited to go places as soon as he can. He may well enjoy swimming if given the opportunity. He is overweight but responding well to regular smaller meals and has lost 4 lbs in just a couple of weeks. When he has slimmed down he will surely have more energy and be ready to go exploring. A lovebug of a dog!

What Max's Rescue Rep Says: A pretty awesome dog and companion. We want a home that will continue his weight loss plan, he can be in a home with another dog and he can be in a home with kids. We are not sure about a home with cats but he does not seem to have a high prey drive. Max will make a wonderful addition to your pack!

Medical: We got Max in right away to remove the growth on the bottom of his foot. Max was having issues walking and we felt it best to act quickly. Max is doing great with the foster mom and dad and we got great news the growth was not cancer. Max is almost down with his treatment and will be one happy boy and ready for his new home. Max needs to lose around 15 pounds and has already started losing at the foster home. Max is updated on his shots, microchipped, on regular preventatives and we did a full blood panel before his surgery and everything came out Great.

Our volunteers donate their personal time phones so please only call during reasonable hours (8am - 8pm). The Rescue Rep identified in the dog posting is the only person with information about the dog - please only contact the designated volunteer. We do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week; we do not have a facility where the dogs are housed, they are in foster homes throughout the Bay Area.
