Melodie ~6-year-old female yellow Lab 70 lbs Not yet spayed

Background: Melodie was one of 50+ dogs recently removed from a hoarding situation. She, along with her former companions, were in pretty rough shape: flea dermatitis, major ear infections, infested with roundworms or tapeworms, embedded foxtails, filthy coats, badly worn teeth -- absolutely beyond bedraggled. We are thrilled to give Melodie and the other Labs some major medical care and long overdue TLC... and ready them for new (and outstanding) forever homes where they can thrive.

What Melodie's Foster Says: Melodie is a sweetheart of a girl who has had a rough time up until now and is ready for the good life.  She is incredibly resilient and is rebounding well—a typical Labrador retriever.  She has settled into life in our home easily along with our black lab.  Housetrained and crate trained, she has adopted us into her daily activities.  She likes pets and hanging around with her people, following us around from room to room or out in the backyard.  She enjoys a walk twice a day, on leash in the neighborhood or off-leash at the park.  She sleeps well through the night either in her crate or on the floor next to our bed.  She is eating well and is pretty treat motivated.    Her only vice is an interest in chewing on paper so one has to watch the mail, magazines etc. at her eye level.  The car is unfamiliar to her so she is a bit scared of the motion but she is excited if it takes her to a fun place so I expect she will adapt.  She seems to get along with everyone, human and dog alike.  She just wants someone who will love her and take good care of her.

What Melodie's Rescue Rep Says:Melodie has had a difficult life thus far... but her future is bright. We would welcome adopting out Melodie and one of her companions (Stan, Ruby, Gertrude, Betty Jo, Franklin, Becky, Sally, Tala, or Lucy) to the same family. Melodie gets along great with other dogs and people. Melodie would be happy in any home where she can be a part of a family that is around most of the time. She seems to take to women a bit more than men, but kids, another dog, cats, no problem! She likes everybody and just wants to be a part of the fun. A home without too many stairs would be ideal.

Medical: Current on vaccinations, microchipped, and heartworm negative. Many of her front teeth (incisors) are ground down to near nothing. Recovering from ear infection. Blood panel revealed she is slightly anemic and we are waiting for this be resolved before we spay her.

Located In: El Cerito.

Our volunteers donate their personal time phones so please only call during reasonable hours (8am - 8pm). The Rescue Rep identified in the dog posting is the only person with information about the dog - please only contact the designated volunteer. We do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week; we do not have a facility where the dogs are housed, they are in foster homes throughout the Bay Area.
