Moose 1-year-old male black Lab mix 72-lbs Neutered

Background: Moose (originally named "Clifford" by SF Animal Care and Control) was found on the streets of San Francisco.  He won the hearts of the staff at SF ACC with his spirited exuberance.

What Moose's Foster Says: Mr. Moose is a goofy young boy, a 1 yr old black lab mix, about 72 lbs. Still very much a puppy in a big dog body, he is enjoying exploring the world and learning new tricks (i.e., sit, stay, wait, leave it). He has a lot to learn and is responding well to training queues. Takes treats, but can be a bit snappy, so watch your fingers! He is jumpy if he gets overly excited, but is learning to control this. A natural retriever, he loves to fetch and play ball. Definitely a swimmer, he enjoys the beach and the park where he can run, fetch, and play with other pups. He has very good recall and a good sense of belonging with his people. Walks easily on leash with a front clip harness. In the house, he likes to hang around with his family, lay on your feet and get pets. Barks occasionally at new sounds and alert you to things outside. He is crate trained and sleeping well through the night so long as he gets a morning and afternoon/evening long walk, run and time fetching the ball each day. He is getting along well with our 10-yr-old lab and has had very good interactions with other dogs at the park. He just wants to play.

What Moose's Rescue Rep Says: Moose is a lot of dog.  Will need a strong, able adopter who embraces the need for structure and exercise.  Would do great in a home with an existing dog.  No idea how he is with cats.  Smaller children will be easily trampled by this guy.  Not for anyone unsteady on their feet.  Presence of a pool or lake or ocean would be a plus.

Medical: Neutered, microchipped, and current on vaccinations.  In good health.  Heartworm test pends.

Located In: El Cerrito.

Our volunteers donate their personal time phones so please only call during reasonable hours (8am - 8pm). The Rescue Rep identified in the dog posting is the only person with information about the dog - please only contact the designated volunteer. We do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week; we do not have a facility where the dogs are housed, they are in foster homes throughout the Bay Area.
