Odin 3-year-old male black Lab mix 35-lbs Neutered

Background: Odin was surrendered by his family to Stanislaus Animal Services Agency in Modesto in late December.  The family did not have the financial abilities to pay for the diagnostics of Odin's neurological issues.

What The Shelter Say: Odin has some neurological issues. Per the owner, the dog started losing his balance two months ago. He's very friendly, great with kids. Spent his days outdoors and his nights indoors. Crate-trained, potty-trained, and is normally very high energy but had not been on any walks once the neurological issues arose. He’s a dream boy! Odin is calm, quiet, easy to handle but he does have a very hard time walking. He is very curious about the world around him and watches the comings and goings of everyone. Odin allowed the shelter staff to touch him all over.

What Odin's Foster Says: A very friendly, happy, smart guy.  Definitely house-trained.  Gets along with other dogs and people.  A bit whiny until he settles in.  Loves to go for walks.  Did great walking; just dragging the leash behind him -- stayed close by.  Does fine with our cat (see photo).

What Odin's Rescue Rep Says: Odin has neurological issues that affect his mobility and balance.  He has an unsteady gait.  We got him into a foster home to learn more about his condition and abilities -- and he is doing great there.  No idea what the long-term path will be for Odin; we want him to have a good quality of life, but realize there may be limitations on what can be achieved.  He is resolutely a "special-needs" dog.  We want to give him the best chance.  We are also trying to put on some weight/muscle.on him.

Medical: A doggie neurologist performed extensive testing on Odin... to identify the root cause of his condition; was unable to determine the cause of his unsteadiness.  Neutered.  Microchipped.  Current on vaccinations.

Our volunteers donate their personal time phones so please only call during reasonable hours (8am - 8pm). The Rescue Rep identified in the dog posting is the only person with information about the dog - please only contact the designated volunteer. We do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week; we do not have a facility where the dogs are housed, they are in foster homes throughout the Bay Area.
