Oliver, 6 yr old male yellow lab, 83 lbs, neutered is available for adoption

Background: Oliver's family is dealing with some health issues and are unable to continue to give him the life he deserves. They made the difficult decision to rehome him and contacted Golden Gate Lab Rescue to help.

What Oliver's Foster Says:Oliver loves to play fetch with balls, toys and especially frisbees. He lets us know every evening when he is ready to play in the field. He will insist on carrying the frisbee or ball and will stay right by your side. He can easily carry two tennis balls… He also loves to go for walks and is a terrific swimmer. Whether a pool, lake or ocean, he will go straight for the water. One of his favorite things to do is fetch balls out of water. Oliver loves other dogs, cats and even plays with and lays with our chickens. He has a maternal mentality and will happily lay next to any animal and take a nap. He has never been allowed to lay on furniture but has snuck up on top of our bed a few times. I think that is because we allow our small pup to sleep at the foot of our bed. He is happy sleeping on the floor in his bed. If you get up at night, he stays put.

If Oliver ends up with a brother or sister, you can expect him to be docile. Since he has been with us, our Yorkie, Perry, has been the dominant between the two. He wouldn’t dare sneak up on Perry’s food bowl or try to take a toy or ball away during play time.

You never need to worry about potty accidents in the house. If you ask him if he needs to potty, he will go to the door and go do his business. We have a designated area in the yard for him to poop. If you take him to a preferred area to potty, he will eventually continue to go there.

Expect Oliver to protect your home and let you know when someone enters your property. He will let you know when company or the mailman have arrived. He will bark and come across like he is not to be tested but has never been aggressive.

What Oliver's Rescue Rep Says: Oliver is an active, fun-loving Lab who enjoys life’s simple pleasures — chasing a frisbee, fetching a ball, going for walks, or going for a swim. He loves to stay busy but also knows when it’s time to relax; after a good play session, he’ll happily stretch out and rest.

When meeting new people, Oliver is polite and gentle. He tends to observe from a short distance at first, then approaches calmly once he feels comfortable. He’s not pushy or overly eager, but always friendly — the kind of dog who quietly wins you over with his steady tail wag and soft eyes.

Oliver’s good manners extend to other animals, too. He currently lives peacefully with another dog, a cat, and even chickens, and is gentle with them all. On leash, he walks nicely without pulling and responds well to direction.

He does have a lump on his left hind hip that recently appeared, but it doesn’t bother him or slow him down — his frisbee skills remain top-notch!

Oliver would do best in a home where he’ll get plenty of attention, exercise, and companionship, and not be left alone for long stretches. He’s also wonderful with kids and has spent time with his owner’s grandchild.

If you’re looking for a loyal, well-mannered companion who enjoys both adventure and quiet time, Oliver may be the perfect match for you.

Medical: Oliver is up to date on vaccines and current on heartworm and flea & tick preventatives. He was just neutered and has an appointment to check out the lump on his hip on November 13. He also is being treated for a yeast infection in his ears.

Our volunteers donate their personal time phones so please only call during reasonable hours (8am - 8pm). The Rescue Rep identified in the dog posting is the only person with information about the dog - please only contact the designated volunteer. We do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week; we do not have a facility where the dogs are housed, they are in foster homes throughout the Bay Area.
