Panther, 1+ year old black lab mix, ~50 lbs, neutered
Background: Panther was adopted from the San Jose shelter when he was a puppy and given a loving home. However, his family are moving East and cannot take him and asked GGLRR to help find him a home.
What Foster Says: Panther is a happy-go-lucky black Lab mix with a big heart and an even bigger zest for life. This sweet boy loves to run, chase, and be chased, and he gets along beautifully with dogs of all sizes. He’s currently living with our 9-year-old Lab and has adjusted quickly into our home.
House-trained and crate-trained, Panther sleeps soundly through the night. During the day, he enjoys hard chew toys, backyard playtime, and—most of all—pets and back scratches from his people. His routine includes a morning walk and romp at the off-leash dog park, plus more play or a leash walk later in the day. In between adventures, he’s happy to hang out quietly around the house or yard.
Panther is a smart boy who already knows sit, stay, and come, and he’s eager to learn more. He’s still a young dog at heart, so he can be a little jumpy, licky, or mouthy at times, and he’ll need continued training to polish his leash manners. Left alone for short stretches, he does well—but like many dogs, he may chew if left unattended for too long.
With regular exercise, guidance, and love, Panther will thrive. He’d be a great fit for an active family that enjoys outdoor adventures and has time each day for play and training. He’d do well with kids who are old enough to handle his playful energy, and he’d love to have a dog buddy, too. If you’re looking for a fun and loyal companion, Panther is ready to bring joy and energy into your life!
What Rescue Rep Says: Panther is a friendly, affectionate young dog who loves attention and is eager to learn. He sits on command and takes treats gently. He is still working on impulse control and social skills with other dogs, so he’ll do best with an experienced adopter who can continue his training and help him build confidence. Another calm, well-socialized canine companion could be an excellent role model. Unsure about cats.
Panther loves going on walks but will need some leash training especially when meeting other dogs as he wants to play so much. He is house trained and his crate training has come along quickly.
Panther can pull and jump when he's excited, so he’s best suited for a home that appreciates his enthusiasm. He could be good with kids, but given his size we recommend a home with children 10+ years old. A yard and a family who won’t leave him alone for long stretches would be ideal—Panther would thrive with some structure, attention, and activity.
Medical: Panther is neutered and appears to be in good health. He is current on his vaccines and will be getting a heartworm test soon.
