PRINCESS

Princess  3-year old Female Yellow Lab    90 lbs    Not yet spayed

Background: A volunteer with Lab Rescue’s good friend lives in Merced and Princess’s owner reached out to her as they felt they had too many dogs. They realized Princess was not getting the attention she deserved and knew she would thrive in a different situation. She had a loving family and was the dog for the 16 year old son but he became too busy for Princess. Princess has spent most of her time outdoors in a kennel run with her mom and sister. She has had one littler before she came to GGLRR.

What Princess' Foster Says: Princess is the sweetest little meatball! She just wants to be beside you all the time. She has good leash manners in spite of not being walked that much in the past. She is house-broken and is happy to sleep on her bed or a cot. She is quite interested in food and does have a tendency to get her nose up on the countertop to explore anything that smells interesting. She is a little heavy and is working through losing a few pounds, so an active household where she can get lots of walks and playtime would be ideal. She enjoys fetching sticks and toys and does well in off-leash areas, too. She has done well with meeting new dogs but does not have a lot of socialization so introductions should be done slowly with lots of praise afterwards.

What Princess' Rescue Rep Says: Princess is doing well with her transition back into a home and into a busy lifestyle. Princess came from a loving home but she was not exposed to much; everything is new to her. GGLRR had her at an event in San Francisco with lots of people and other dogs. She did great but when she was done and the young / energetic dogs wanted to still play she would give them a little growl to tell them to stop please. (This is appropriate and we want a home that understands and will work with Princess on continued appropriate meetings with dogs.) She loves to be with people and is content in just hanging out. We want a home that will continue her weight loss with measured food and exercise. The foster has left her for periods of time and she has been Great in the home. We are not sure about small kids and they said she does not like cats. Princess loves to swim, loves to play fetch, comes when called and is fine riding in the car. Princess will make a wonderful addition to a home.

Medical: Princess is in good health. She has a vet appointment on June 12th and will get a well check, heartworm test, full blood panel to check her thyroid and we will talk to the Vet about when it is best to get her spayed. When Princess gets spayed she will be microchipped at the same time. Princess has been on a bit of a weight loss plan and has been doing well. She is getting measured food and getting more exercise; she should be under 80 pounds.

Our volunteers donate their personal time phones so please only call during reasonable hours (8am - 8pm). The Rescue Rep identified in the dog posting is the only person with information about the dog - please only contact the designated volunteer. We do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week; we do not have a facility where the dogs are housed, they are in foster homes throughout the Bay Area.
