Roro: ~ 3 Year Old Black Lab Mix, Neutered Male, 78 lbs

Seeking Experienced Adopter

Background: Meet a resilient, remarkable dog who is ready to blossom as an individual. Roro came in with his brother Milo. Roro is more fearful, that means Milo will overreact to stimuli when Roro is nearby.

Having relied heavily on each other during critical developmental stages, they missed early socialization but seem to have stable temperaments. With patient, knowledgeable guidance, they have a lot of potential to blossom.

Their current fosters have been fostering them for 18 months and were with a different rescue until they came under Golden Gate Lab Rescue in June, 2026.

Milo and Roro are very cautious of new people. Since they were raised together, they imprinted on each other rather than on people. This makes it more difficult for them to bond with humans, although it’s not impossible, as they have connected with their fosters. Milo was recently adopted and is doing well.

The Ideal Environment:

  • Experienced Leadership: Families must be highly experienced with cautious, suspicious, or under-socialized dogs. A solid understanding of canine body language and gentle, reward-based management is essential, as their reactions to unfamiliar situations can be unpredictable.
  • Low-Stress, Controlled Setting: A quiet home without small children is required. Roro needs space and respect; if crowded or overwhelmed by new people, he will communicate through snapping. He will do best when allowed to approach new people on their own timeline.
  • Other Dogs in the Home: Roro is initially cautious around new dogs. He has the potential to do very well with well-matched resident dogs when introduced via calm parallel walks. He has been boarded, on occasion, where he was socialized, off leash, with other dogs.
  • Key Management & Training Needs

  • In the Car: Roro displays high arousal and vocalization in the car. Transporting him in a covered crate provides the immediate structure he needs to stay calm, alongside ongoing positive counter-conditioning.
  • Leash & Reactivity Work: Passing other dogs calmly on leash will be an ongoing project requiring consistent focus and threshold management.
  • Roro is a worthy candidates for someone who understands that confidence takes time to build. If you have the experience, patience, and structured home to offer him a safe landing, please reach out.

Medical: Roro is neutered, up to date on core vaccines, and microchipped.

Our volunteers donate their personal time phones so please only call during reasonable hours (8am - 8pm). The Rescue Rep identified in the dog posting is the only person with information about the dog - please only contact the designated volunteer. We do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week; we do not have a facility where the dogs are housed, they are in foster homes throughout the Bay Area.
