Stan ~3-year-old male yellow Lab 65 lbs Not yet neutered
Background: Stan was one of 50+ dogs recently removed from a hoarding situation. He, along with her former companions, were in pretty rough shape: flea dermatitis, major ear infections, infested with roundworms or tapeworms, embedded foxtails, filthy coats, badly worn teeth -- absolutely beyond bedraggled. We are thrilled to give Stan and the other Labs some major medical care and long overdue TLC... and ready them for new (and outstanding) forever homes where they can thrive.
What Stan's Foster Says: Stan the Man! Stanley Tucci! Stanislavsky! Stanny boy. Stan is a very good boy who's gone through a very difficult time. After being neglected for so long, he is eager to be taken care of and loved. While shy and reticent when approached unexpectedly, if he's in his safe space (crate, corner of deck), he loves getting petted, hearing his name, watching his people go about their day. He's a lab, so treats are good, although he hasn't yet taken them from our hands. We place them near his safe space and he comes out to get them when we're not looking. Stan walks well on leash, and gets 3-4 short walks and one long walk a day. He is housetrained and crate trained. He really loves having a schedule, as simple as it is. Stan also looks to his foster uncle for guidance on how to behave. After resting up from his experience, he is showing interest in people and other dogs, without an ounce of reactivity or animosity. He's still got some bumps and scabs on his skin, and we are bathing him a few times a week and grooming him on the deck. Stan will make someone a great companion.
What Stan's Rescue Rep Says:Stan has had a difficult life thus far... but his future is bright. We would welcome adopting out Stan and one of his companions (Melodie, Ruby, Gertrude, Betty Jo, Franklin, Becky, Sally, Tala, or Lucy) to the same family. Stan gets along great with other dogs and people. Stan must be the center of attention in his new forever home. Minimal steps and stairs would be best.
Medical: Current on vaccinations, microchipped, heartworm negative. Stan is dewormed, de-fleaed, treated for an ear infection, and getting baths with medicated skin soap. He is getting probiotics (OTC) and fish oil with his food. He has some "bedsores" (places where the fur isn't going to grow back) and worn down teeth, canines are cracked. Taking antibiotics to resolve a bacteria infection in several lumps along his spine. Will be neutering him down the road.
