Tails 3-year Old Male Chocolate Lab, ~76 lbs, Not Neutered

Background: Tails' family moved out of the country and left Tails with his human grandmother. Tails was her son's dog, and he thought he might be coming back but he won't be. While the grandmother is in her 70's and active, she feels Tails deserves more than she can currently provide and would like to see him with a family who will appreciate all the love, care, activity, and attention he was accustomed to before his family moved. Tails has been well loved and cared for.

What Tails' Rescue Rep Says: Upon meeting Tails, I found a friendly and social dog. He allowed all over handling. While my husband and I were sitting on the sofa, he jumped on my husband's lap with his front paws and licked his face.

He is a strong dog and does pull some on the leash but nothing extreme unless there's an area that he is determined to explore i.e. a large patch of ivy that he loves to sniff and lie in. We encountered other dogs walking around the neighborhood and Tails pulled a bit towards them, wanting to say hi. One dog was a little reactive towards Tails, barking at him, but Tails didn't respond back.

He's been raised around children since he was a puppy, and the children in his family are now 5-8 years old. He is house and crate trained, likes to swim, enjoys car rides (although is reported to be a very excited passenger and does better with someone who can sit in the back seat with him).

We'd like to see Tails with a family where he won't be left alone for long stretches of the day and one where he can be out and about on family walks and adventures. He's young and requires attention and exercise! He likes children and other dogs. Cats are unknown.

Medical: Tails is up to date on vaccinations and microchipped. He was pretty itchy when I met him and I did see a flea on his belly. His grandmother had just given him a bath so she was surprised. He does have a small patch of fur missing on his back and the grandmother said she noticed that appeared shortly after he had spent a lot of time playing with another dog. Lab Rescue will get him in for a general exam, heartworm test, and coordinate his neuter.

Our volunteers donate their personal time phones so please only call during reasonable hours (8am - 8pm). The Rescue Rep identified in the dog posting is the only person with information about the dog - please only contact the designated volunteer. We do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week; we do not have a facility where the dogs are housed, they are in foster homes throughout the Bay Area.
