Waffles 2-year-old male yellow Lab 75 lbs Neutered

Background: This young guy was found on the streets of Stockton with a collar embedded in his neck and wounds on his front legs -- no idea what his story was. He soon joined our program and arrived at his foster with kennel cough which rapidly developed into bronchial pneumonia. Geesh! 20 days of multi-antibiotic regimen along with some supplements... and he recovered in fine fashion. He is currently romping at Diesel Ranch with Diesel, Blackjack, and Honey in Placerville.

What Waffles's Foster Says: I almost became a failed-foster with Sir Waffles -- he is such an awesome dog -- but there are already three dogs at Diesel Ranch. He is an absolute hoot. Now that he is recovered from his ailments, his exuberant spirit and boundless energy are in full view. Rambunctious! Rowdy! Waffles has the loudest and deepest bark of a Lab I have ever heard -- the neighbors definitely know when we are out for a leash walk. Waffles wants to be the center of the action.

Incredibly affectionate; loves to be touched, petted. Soft velvet ears. Will eagerly accept belly rubs forever. Learning how to walk on a leash. I could easily call him "pogo-stick boy", as he bounces up and down -- boing, boing, boing -- when it is mealtime or when I go to open to the front door or when I reach for his harness. Mostly house-trained, he will have an occasional late-night accident if I do not hear him stirring, asking to go outside. Working on "sit", "stay", and "down". He will gladly "come" (at high speed and crash into you). Waffles loves to lie down in my fountain when we return from walks -- I wish I had a pool for him. Sleeps through the night on a dog bed in the living room. I have not been crating him. Will counter-surf if food is up there. Not a picky eater -- will eat most anything -- inhales his kibble. Gets along great with my dogs; happy to meet other dogs on walks. Will jump up on people when he first meets them -- looks and sounds scary but is total joy and happiness.

What Lab Rescue Says: What a journey he has been on! Fully recovered from his neck and leg wounds; the fur has nearly fully grown back. Not for the faint-hearted or anyone unsteady on their feet. Not for families with children under ~10 as Waffles is a total bulldozer and will plow down the little ones. Waffles will need lots of exercise and lots of room to run. Not an apartment or condo or urban dog. I suspect he would love to have a pool or river or lake or ocean in his future. Waffles is ready to take over the home, so he will need structure and guidance from his humans. Not for "first-time dog owners". Would be best if he is not left alone for extended periods of time. Having a dog trainer at the ready would be a fine idea. No idea how Waffles is with cats.

Medical: Waffles is current on vaccinations, microchipped, heartworm negative, and recently-neutered.

Our volunteers donate their personal time phones so please only call during reasonable hours (8am - 8pm). The Rescue Rep identified in the dog posting is the only person with information about the dog - please only contact the designated volunteer. We do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week; we do not have a facility where the dogs are housed, they are in foster homes throughout the Bay Area.
